The Scholar's Lecture at Detroit Music Hall on May 6, 2010 was a welcomed forum by over 35 Detroit area schools.
Education was the key component of the Ford Freedom program and a key role of the Ford Freedom recipients - John H. Johnson, (posthumously) founder and publisher of Johnson Publishing, producers of Jet & Ebony magazines and Usher Raymond, IV, chairman and founder of Usher's New Look Foundation named Ford Freedom Award Scholar.
During Usher's address to over 1,500 area school students, Usher spoke about his experiences and determination to achieve as an entrepreneur.

July 17, 2010 on the grounds of MacGregor Library in Highland Park Michigan, the 1st Annual Highland Park Concert was held to raise funds for renovation of the historical library. With friends and support from the music community that only they can deliver, along with Faith Tabernacle Church, the event proved to be unforgettable and successful.

For over 23 years, this event has taken place on the last Monday in July.

The ACDT-SO Competition, Saturday, April 24, 2010,
ACT-SO provides a forum through which African-American youth demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific prowess and expertise. The ACT-SO is not a talent show, but an opportunity for the youth to showcase their skills and abilities in the sciences, humanities, performing and visual arts, and business. ACT-SO is where the next millennium architects, scientists, musicians, poets, dancers, artists and entrepreneurs are discovered in grades 9-12 in 25 categories to compete with other winners from other cities at the National Competition, which is held during the NAACP Annual Convention.

ACT-SO is designed to recruit, stimulate and encourage high academic and artistic excellence among high school students.

The Detroit Chapter National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) hosted a Town Hall Meeting to confront the negative portrayal of Detroit as featured on ”Dateline NBC."
Aretha Marshall, managing editor and native Detroiter spoke on behalf of Dateline and faced a distinguished panel of Detroit media professionals, independent media, activists and the general public.

On Sunday August 1, 2010 Detroit EM News went on location to cover a spectacular week long makeover project sponsored by NBC’s new reality TV series “School Pride.” After being selected by the show’s executive producer, Cheryl Hines, DPS Communications & Media Arts experienced a huge renovation and restoration project performed on behalf of local contractors, sponsors and NBC.

For over four years, the APBA has extended opportunities to Detroit EM News based on our mission to promote social wellness and provide practicum/practical training to area youth and young adults interested in the entertainment arena, journalism, media arts, music, social etiquette and more.
This year during race weekend, Detroit EM News college intern reporter, Shayna Fields Clark and intern reporter J. Foss were introduced to the motor sports circuit, while Marc Quirles, Jr., junior reporter continued to demonstrate professional qualities in his delivery. In doing so, Detroit EM News is able to provide real world training, skill building techniques, exposure, networking opportunities and capture Detroit EM News slogan, the "entertainer's written word."
